Orestiadi Mazal Frappato 2021
This indigenous Sicilian grape remains relatively under the radar, though it’s often compared to Gamay or Pinot Noir for its lighter body and vibrant fruit profile. The grapes are hand-harvested, then undergo a short cold maceration to enhance colour and lift the aromatics before fermentation. Aging in large French and American oak barrels adds subtle structure without overwhelming the fruit.
It’s dry and expressive, offering aromas of red berries, fresh grape, garrigue, and a touch of vanilla, with just a bit of red plum and blackberry emerging on the palate.
At the table, it feels right at home with classic Sicilian dishes like Caponata and Pasta alla Norma. It also pairs beautifully with grilled peppers or seafood, especially swordfish or tuna.
